Prevention and Care of Pressure Ulcers

Prevention and Care of Pressure Ulcers

Prolonged bed rest and limited mobility are often accompanied by additional health challenges, one of the most dangerous being pressure ulcers (bedsores).

At "Khnami" Palliative Center, we specialize in high-quality care and treatment of pressure ulcers and postoperative wounds. In this article, we will present how to effectively prevent these complications.

What are pressure ulcers?

Pressure ulcers are injuries to the skin and underlying deep tissues that develop as a result of prolonged and continuous pressure. The most vulnerable areas are those where bony prominences are close to the skin's surface (e.g., heels, lower back, elbows).

4 Important Steps for Prevention:

  • Regularly change the patient's position – movement and regular repositioning relieve pressure on the same skin area.
  • Monitor the condition of the skin – timely notice even minor changes and redness that may warn of danger.
  • Maintain cleanliness and moisture balance – the skin must be clean and well-maintained to avoid irritations.
  • Use auxiliary aids – special anti-decubitus mattresses and pillows significantly reduce the pressure exerted on the skin.

If your loved one needs professional care for the treatment of pressure ulcers or postoperative wounds, the specialists at "Khnami" Palliative Center are ready to provide round-the-clock care and medical support.
